Our latest addition to the “Cities” collection is the "Tribute to Kyoto" timepiece. Magana continues its journey of intertwining history with the present time, paying homage to thousand-year-old cities.
Kyoto, once the imperial capital of Japan, holds a rich history and cultural significance. We delve into a fascinating past to create an accurate tribute: Kyoto, formerly known as Heian-kyō, was established as Japan's capital in 794 AD by Emperor Kanmu. It served as the center of political, cultural, and religious life for over a millennium until the capital was moved to Tokyo in 1868 during the Meiji Restoration.
During its long history, Kyoto witnessed the rise and fall of numerous dynasties, including the Heian, Kamakura, Muromachi, and Edo periods. Each era left its mark on the city, contributing to its architectural heritage, artistic traditions, and spiritual practices.
Kyoto's cultural legacy extends to its traditional arts, such as tea ceremony, ikebana (flower arranging), and kabuki theater. The city is also famous for its historic districts like Gion, known for its preserved wooden machiya townhouses and as the center of the geisha culture.
Despite modernization and urban development, Kyoto has preserved its historical charm through meticulous conservation efforts. Many of its ancient temples, shrines, and gardens are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, attracting millions of visitors each year.
As we pay tribute to Kyoto with the "Tribute to Kyoto" timepiece, let's honor its enduring legacy as a symbol of Japan's rich cultural heritage and timeless beauty.

Climate change is real, so we follow a clear sustainability roadmap: use recycled and recyclable materials wherever possible, prioritize suppliers with strong eco practices even when they cost more, make our processes energy-efficient, donate a share of profits to climate NGOs, and champion sustainable habits in work and life. We’ve partnered with Trees for the Future to help build an Africa “Green Belt.” This is the Magana Pledge: every watch funds 212 trees via Trees.org. For every 100 watches, that’s at least 2,120 trees—sequestering ~360 kg of CO₂ each year, yielding ~340 kg of organic fruits and vegetables annually, and rehabilitating ~2,900 m² of farmland. We can’t do it alone; when you choose Magana, you’re choosing a more sustainable future.
