The TANJA Black Onyx has a brushed stainless steel case, 37 mm in diameter and 8 mm thick. It runs on a battery-powered Japanese MIYOTA quartz movement.

The dial is cut from black onyx, a form of chalcedony: quartz made of crystals too fine to see, laid down in layers over time. Prized since ancient Egypt and Rome, onyx has been carved into cameos, seals and amulets for thousands of years. Naturally black onyx is so rare that, for centuries, craftsmen have deepened its colour by hand. Pliny the Elder described the technique in Roman times, and the German town of Idar-Oberstein perfected it in the 19th century. The result is a surface of perfectly even black, as dark and still as the night.

The watch is completed with a black calfskin leather strap stamped with an alligator pattern.
