We delve into a fascinating past to create an accurate tribute: Kyoto, formerly known as Heian-kyō, was established as Japan's capital in 794 AD by Emperor Kanmu. It served as the center of political, cultural, and religious life for over a millennium until the capital was moved to Tokyo in 1868 during the Meiji Restoration.

During its long history, Kyoto witnessed the rise and fall of numerous dynasties, including the Heian, Kamakura, Muromachi, and Edo periods. Each era left its mark on the city, contributing to its architectural heritage, artistic traditions, and spiritual practices.
